Susan’s story

  1. Why did you decide to have plastic surgery?

Over the years, having children, putting on weight and losing it, and generally by getting older, my breasts became “saggy.” I felt my breasts were too large, and despite always being measured for bras, they didn’t fit all of my breast, comfortably into my bras. There was always a bit of an overhang at the sides or some popping out of the top, of which I was constantly trying to correct / rearrange my breast tissue. The size and sag of them made me struggle when I was getting dressed as nothing seemed to look right or fit as it should. This affected me most when I was on holiday because at that time, you always want to look good.

I also had neck and backache due to the weight and my posture was affected negatively by them.

2. How did you hear about our practice?

I had made enquiries to Vicki regarding breast surgery and she was really helpful in providing me with the necessary information that I needed to make a decision.

3. What made you choose Mr. Winterton for your surgery?

I had previously had an arm lift (5 years ago) with Mr Winterton. At that time, I was looking for a surgeon who I could trust and would provide the outcome I desired. I had heard so many horror stories and so wanted to make sure that I chose the correct person.

He was recommended to me by someone else who had had arm lift surgery by Mr Winterton and she was very pleased at the outcome.

When I met Mr Winterton on my first consultation to explore arm lift surgery, I knew immediately that he was the right person for me to put my trust into.

Once I decided on going ahead with breast surgery (bilateral breast reduction), I knew there was only one surgeon that I could trust to provide me the correct advice, give me options and carry out the surgery successfully.

4. How do you feel your surgery went overall?

The results of the surgery far exceeded my expectations and I am now pleased to say, in my mind, I have the most beautiful breasts anyone could wish for.

The surgery turned out exactly as Mr Winterton had said it would in the consultation and before the actual surgery.

From the moment I was admitted to the Alexandra Hospital, I felt in safe hands.

Mr Winterton visited me in my room for a final review of what was going to happen in theatre and from that point on, I was totally relaxed.

5. How did you find your recovery and the aftercare provided?

My aftercare in the hospital was wonderful. The care from all the nurses and staff on the ward was caring, supportive, reassuring and helpful. All the staff were friendly, whilst remaining professional, which made my stay very comfortable.

I didn’t have a lot of pain and was able to return home after an overnight stay.

Mr Winterton visited me before my discharge and provided me with the information to look after my wounds at home, what I could do (i.e. types of activities / housework etc) when I returned home nd what I shouldn’t attempt to do. I was given an appointment to visit him at The Beeches, 1 week post surgery to have the dressings removed.

One that visit, Mr Winterton and his nurse Alison, carefully removed the dressings and reviewed the wounds. All were healing well and I was given a further appointment to check on progress.

On my second visit I was discharged as my scars had fully healed and started to fade.

I did not have a lot of pain during my recovery, mainly itching, which was more irritating than actually painful.

I work in an office and was therefore able to return to work after a couple of weeks on reduce hours. The hardest part was NOT getting back to my normal routine as I felt so well after my surgery – however, I did follow Mr Winterton’s advice, as I didn’t want to jeopardise my recovery and cause any damage to ‘the end product’.

6. How has surgery changed your life?

My arm lift surgery, 5 years ago changed my life immensely but this surgery has added to my confidence levels greatly as I now feel I am able to wear all the clothes I dared never to wear before for nights out. I also can wear blouses without gaping at the front and no longer ‘pop’ out of my bra. I can also wear bras that are without the pain of wires, which has been a whole new experience for me as they are far more comfortable.

I have notices recently that my posture has improved and I don’t suffer from neck or back ache as I did before.

This surgery has definitely changed my life in a positive way.

7. Would you be happy to recommend our practice to your family and friends

I would definitely recommend your practice to friends and family. I have received a great service from everyone at The beeches and always been welcomed with a friendly and welcoming smile. Vicki goes beyond the call of duty to be helpful.
